BMV Opts for Diesel with HVO 100

Is the Federal Ministry of Transportation (BMV) actually relying solely on electric cars?

Of course: NO!
“Electric only” has long been outdated, and an open-minded approach to technology is finally—and sensibly—taking hold in the minds and actions of more and more politicians.

According to the FAZ, State Secretary Christian Hirte (CDU) has just opted for a diesel-powered official car. “With diesel made from vegetable oil, the car is supposed to produce fewer climate-damaging emissions than an electric car.”

Key statements by Hirte in the FAZ interview:

1. “Studies by scientists and industry indicate that using this (HVO 100) can reduce CO2 emissions during production by about 90 percent compared to fossil fuels.”

2. “An electric powertrain emits 40 percent less CO2 than a diesel engine. But a diesel engine running exclusively on HVO 100 could reduce CO2 emissions by another three-quarters compared to the electric model—even when compared to an electric drive. And that’s without even taking into account the currently CO2-intensive battery production for electric cars.”

3. “A study (KIT) has shown that we in Germany have enormous potential in terms of feedstock—not only used cooking oil, but also other waste and residual materials.”

Conclusion: Openness to technology remains the magic word of the moment!
