Is the government’s electric car subsidy really a sensible way to support the German economy using German taxpayer money?
According to the FAZ and *Auto Motor und Sport*: Unfortunately, only to a limited extent. Initial analyses show that Chinese manufacturers and suppliers are the main beneficiaries of German taxpayer money, since their cars are primarily chosen and subsidized by German customers.
What’s wrong with this electric car incentive?
Chinese cars are manufactured under conditions that are very different from those in Germany and the EU—and, unfortunately, our government has failed to attach conditions to its support.
What’s the downside?
The taxpayer money that is now simply flowing to China could certainly have been used to support the development of infrastructure for synthetic fuels right here at home.
