eFuels: production and applications

eFuels are synthetic fuels produced using electricity. This platform provides information on production processes, potential applications and the conditions governing their use.

What does “new CO₂ emissions” mean?
Here, this means CO₂ emissions added to the atmosphere through the use of fossil fuels. Burning carbon-containing eFuels also releases CO₂. Their greenhouse gas balance depends on the entire life cycle, particularly the sources of electricity and CO₂, as well as production, transport and use. Reusing CO₂ alone does not mean climate neutrality.
