At what point can we do without combustion engines?

The question is: Do we have to, or should we, abandon combustion engines so quickly? After all, it is not the engines but the fossil fuels that are the “climate problem” – and as we know, these can be replaced within a reasonable time by e-fuels or CO2-neutral, synthetic fuels from green electricity .

In addition, according to the WELT , the business community in persons such as BMW CEO Zipse expressly “warn against a premature ban on internal combustion engines.” Among other things, because of Germany’s “global market position” and the resulting economic risks of a premature ban. According to Welt and Zipse, this would “help neither the climate nor anyone else.”
E-fuels could make any combustion engine CO2-neutral.
