Are the German car manufacturers really still behind the current all-electric strategy?
According to Claudia Scholz, Pioneer Editor and Business Correspondent at The Pioneer, quite clearly: NO!!!!
In her article of 28 February for The Pioneer, she reports that the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) e.V. spoke out at its last board meeting in favour of biofuels being integrated into the European fleet regulation and thus recognized as a contribution to achieving the CO2 targets, just like electromobility. Until now, most manufacturers have advocated an all-electric strategy. Now they are in favor of the carbon correction factor, which they rejected until a year ago.
Good to know:
The carbon correction factor takes into account the new CO2 emissions of the fuel used, which are significantly lower for eFuels and HVO than for fossil fuels. This would take account of the fact that it is not the type of drive system but the fuel used that is decisive for the CO2 footprint of a vehicle.
As a result, the carbon correction factor would reduce the calculated CO2 emissions for each vehicle sold by the manufacturers. Scholz writes: “The prospect of high penalties and low electric car sales, which could avert these penalties, have probably led to a change of direction among car manufacturers and the VDA, according to market participants.”
It’s a good thing that we have been campaigning for the ramp-up of renewable fuels such as HVO and eFuels in recent years – despite many declarations of abandonment from our critics. The next step would be to ban combustion engines completely!
