Are the signs really still pointing to “all-electric and nothing else” in the road traffic sector, as is repeatedly claimed?
Quite clearly: NO, of course not.
Especially not for public and company fleets!
In March 2024, AWIGO Abfallwirtschaft im Landkreis OsnabrĂĽck commissioned its first HVO100 filling station at the GeorgsmarienhĂĽtte site as part of a pilot project with our eFuels Forum friends from Q1 Energie AG to test the synthetic fuel on two side loaders from the 80-strong refuse collection fleet. Q1 provided a yard filling station with a 1,000-liter tank for this purpose.
Test result:
“Since the test did not reveal any increase in fuel consumption or loss of performance, all AWIGO vehicles in GeorgsmarienhĂĽtte are now refueled with HVO,” says Patrick Weber, fleet manager at AWIGO SERVICE GmbH. These include waste collection vehicles, excavators and construction machinery from the recycling center as well as company cars. The first major HVO diesel delivery took place in March 2025.
Next step:
In future, GeorgsmarienhĂĽtte will continue to fill up with HVO after the test phase. Of course, factors such as availability and price trends will also be closely monitored in the longer term, Patrick Weber continues – not least when considering additional HVO tanks at other AWIGO sites.
Now the new government, presumably led by Chancellor Merz, only has to provide new political impetus as announced and put an end to the old, one-sided policy of prevention and prohibition!
