Can alternative fuels really make a decisive contribution to achieving our climate targets? Deutsche Bahn clearly says: YES and is opening an HVO filling station for shunting locomotives at the marshalling yard in Halle in eastern Germany! DB Cargo’s dual-power locomotive – DB ‘s most modern machine – copes very well with fuel made from old chip fat.
The hybrid locomotive increases efficiency and sustainability for cargo customers’ supply chains.
The conversion of the filling station to the “green” fuel was realized by DB Energie. Good to know: DB Cargo will use around eight million liters of the non-fossil fuel nationwide this year, saving around 25,000 tons of CO2.
By 2028, the company plans to refuel with around 24 million liters of HVO, thereby reducing the environmental impact by around 72,000 tons of CO2.
