An end to the ban on combustion engines?
According to CDU/CSU chancellor candidate and Bundestag election winner Friedrich Merz: YES!
According to merkur.de, he already promised in the 2024 European election campaign that he would work to overturn this ideologically driven ban! As the new chancellor, he has every opportunity to do so!
According to merkur.de and Zeit Online, Merz went even further at a CDU election campaign event in Saarlouis: “This ban on the combustion engine must be reversed because we don’t know today what kind of mobility can really be developed in an environmentally neutral and climate-friendly way in the future”.
He was supported by CSU Secretary General Martin Huber, who described the blanket ban on combustion engines from 2035 as wrong in his opinion. When it comes to climate protection, he said, we would be better advised to be more open to technology than to impose bans. “The combustion engine is the basis of our prosperity in Germany. It would be madness to simply ban this technology,” Huber emphasized to the Bild newspaper.
Now the CDU and CSU, as the governing party, should quickly put their words into action – especially in view of the ramp-up of synthetic fuels such as eFuels and HVO, with which combustion engines can already be operated with CO2 savings of up to 90%!
