Switzerland: Majority does not want to buy an e-car

Interest in e-cars declining?

According to Microsoft Start, there is bad news for electric car makers from Switzerland. So it says:

According to a survey by the online comparison portal bonus.ch, 71 percent of the Swiss population do not currently want to buy an electricity-powered vehicle. This compares with 22 percent who plan to buy an e-car and 7 percent who already own one. The survey questioned over 2900 Swiss citizens with car insurance.

It is true that the market for electric cars continued to grow in Switzerland in 2022 – 17.7 percent of all newly registered cars were pure electric vehicles. In 2021, the share was still 13.2 percent. But at the same time, the comparison portal fears that growth could now slow down again. The federal government and the cantons are to blame. On the one hand, the Federal Council would have decided to abolish the tax exemption for e-vehicles again from 2024. On the other hand, cantonal subsidies for the purchase of an electric vehicle would become increasingly rare or would also be abolished.

Good to know: With climate-friendly climate diesel (HVO) and synthetic fuels(eFuels) from wind, water and sun for combustion cars, alternatives are also gradually coming onto the market.
Openness to technology is required.
