eFuels are not economical?
Again this question is taken up in the policy and again it is answered future-perspectively correctly – this time by Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner (FDP) in its speech on the 74th Ord. federal party conference of the free Democrats on the past weekend!
There it says in advance:
“We want to enable synthetic fuels that are carbon-neutral. By the way, I will propose in the tax law to treat them the same way as electric vehicles, because both help the climate in the same way. I am convinced that they will have a major role in the existing fleet of the many millions of vehicles we have on the road, and may still have a role in new vehicles from 2035 onwards. I cannot know. No one can know. But at least we are keeping this technology path open.
And on the question of “economic viability of eFuels.”
“It makes sense to produce synthetic fuels where there is plenty of sunshine available. Not necessarily in Germany, but they then come to Germany with the help of other infrastructures.”
And further:
“But we’re still always told, ‘They’re not economical, it won’t succeed.’ And I ask myself, if they are not economical, then we shouldn’t want to ban them, the market can decide that. But more than that, (…), it’s the same people who tell us the heat pump will be quite cheap in two years, but at the same time tell us even in the thirties e-fuels will never be economical. I think if you believe in market economics, it’s the same with heat pumps as it is with e-fuels.”
