These are grave concerns that EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton expressed to Politico on the subject of banning internal combustion vehicles from 2035. And in doing so, very drastically calls into question the switch to electric cars in the allotted time.
The reasons for this include the lack of charging infrastructure for e-cars as well as the supply shortage of raw materials needed for the production of batteries and the obstacles to a massive introduction of electric vehicles.
The Berliner Zeitung even headlines this:“The EU gets cold feet: Will the switch to electric cars fail?” Many experts therefore consider the use of synthetic fuels(eFuels) in internal combustion engines to be indispensable as an additional alternative, even after 2035. These could be used to quickly and easily refuel existing cars worldwide in a climate-neutral way.
