Does the “all-electric” strategy so vehemently defended by some politicians really work in terms of the emissions targets that have been set?
Of course: NO!
The review report presented by the Expert Council for Climate Issues on May 15 shows that the transport sector has failed to meet its CO₂ targets: The transport sector has also clearly missed its CO₂ targets in 2024.
In a press release, UNITI Bundesverband EnergieMittelstand e.V. therefore emphasizes the need for a fuel transition supported by regulation: Away from fossil fuels and towards renewable fuels – both for existing and new vehicles. After all, 96.6% of cars on German roads are still combustion-powered (as of January 2025) and 86% of new registrations in 2024 were vehicles with combustion engines.
According to UNITI, technology-neutral regulation that takes into account the climate protection contribution of renewable fuels in CO₂ fleet regulation is crucial in order to facilitate investment and remove barriers – for example, in the case of hydrogen imports.
UNITI calls on the new German government to swiftly implement the goals formulated in the coalition agreement and to open up realistic, effective ways to defossilize transport.
We are excited …
