Is there still a political majority in favor of phasing out combustion engines in the Bundestag?
The CDU clearly says NO and, according to FOCUS, wants to request a roll-call vote on this issue.
Such a vote would send a clear signal to the EU and would certainly be the start of a general change of direction on the issue of banning combustion engines!
Key points of the proposal according to FOCUS:
1/ “New cars with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines should still be allowed to be registered after 2035 without an end date if they can run on climate-friendly fuels.” 2/ “In order to enable a market launch for climate fuels, such as e-fuels or HVO 100, a 100 percent reduction in emissions across the entire production chain should not be prescribed immediately, but the sustainability requirement of the Renewable Energy Directive should be applied.”
3/ “Vehicles that run on climate fuel should be counted towards the car manufacturers’ fleet limits in the same way as electric cars. “We are keeping our fingers crossed that the motion, which had to be postponed due to the traffic light chaos, will be passed and herald the necessary change!
