Müller (VDA): EU decision out of touch with reality and harms climate protection

Only with the use of synthetic fuels(eFuels) will the decarbonization of transport be truly successful!
The reason for this is the stock of combustion vehicles: 280 million in Europe and around 1.5 billion worldwide.
It is therefore all the more surprising that the EU – obviously politically driven – does not want to promote CO2-neutral eFuels any further.

VDA President Hildegard Müller commented:
“In this context, synthetic fuels are essential to decarbonize the vehicle fleet: 280 million internal combustion vehicles in Europe alone, 1.5 billion worldwide. Only if these vehicles are also climate-neutral on the road in the future can we achieve the ambitious climate neutrality targets. For this, we absolutely need synthetic fuels. But instead of promoting eFuels, Europe has so far excluded this technology, leaving the stock out of the equation when it comes to achieving climate targets in transport. That’s out of touch with reality and detrimental to climate protection.”
