Which party supports the EU’s ban on combustion engines?

Election on February 23: What do the parties have to say about the EU’s ban on combustion engines?

Business editor Veronika Kanzler from the Stuttgarter Zeitung asked herself this question and categorized the results!

Quotes from the election programs:

BĂśNDNIS 90/DIE GRĂśNEN: “Globally, the competition between combustion engines and electric cars has long been decided. For companies in the automotive industry, with its medium-sized suppliers the largest industrial sector in our country, planning security is crucial: that we stick to only allowing new climate-friendly drive systems from 2035. We support the specific targets of the EU fleet limit value regulation and reject any weakening.”

CDU Germany: “The ban on combustion engines must be reversed.”

FDP Free Democrats: “We Free Democrats are committed to technological openness in climate protection. After all, if politicians and officials dictate which technologies are used and which are banned, this will slow down the innovative strength of companies and make climate protection unnecessarily expensive. That is why we are calling for the de facto ban on combustion engines to be lifted immediately from 2035 and for innovation-friendly regulation of the extraction, use and storage of greenhouse gases, as the use of these technologies is essential for achieving the climate targets.”

German Social Democratic Party (SPD): “Germany is a car country. The future of cars lies in electromobility. Anyone who suggests that combustion engines with e-fuels are the solution is only making cars affordable for top earners.”
