Wissing for synthetic fuels, so-called eFuels

It is a ban on internal combustion engines with an important loophole that the EU recently decided on for 2035 – because as early as 2026, it may be tested once again whether eFuels in internal combustion engines in cars can “save” the internal combustion technology in terms of the energy transition.

According to Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing, eFuels enable the existing fleet, i.e. all existing diesel and gasoline cars, to be operated in a climate-neutral manner. That is why “this option should not simply be pushed aside as an important contribution to climate-neutral mobility. We need every technological solution and not just individual ones.” This was expressed by the Minister of Transport in an interview with ZDF on Oct. 28, 2022.
