But how can the vehicles be reduced in CO2-intensive sector, so that the construction industry can make its contribution to climate protection? The solution: eFuels. At the eFuels Forum booth (Hall 8, Booth 8455), visitors will learn how the synthetic fuels are produced, what their advantages are, where they can be used, and when they will be available at German filling stations. In addition, the lobby group is exhibiting a BMW Mini wrapped in the campaign design, in which the team drove across Germany for two information tours in the summers of 2021 and 2022, fueled with eFuels from CAC Engineering.

What are eFuels?

eFuels (“Electricity-based Fuels“) are liquid synthetic fuels produced from hydrogen and carbon dioxide using green electricity. During use, only as much CO2 as was previously taken from the atmosphere during their production. For this reason, they are considered CO2-neutral. eFuels are produced in regions of the world where wind and solar energy are available in virtually unlimited quantities. Tankers can then bring them to Europe in liquid form, where they can be transported in the same way as gasoline and diesel in the existing infrastructure, stored and then sold at service stations. Vehicles can refuel eFuels without hesitation and without technical adaptation – as an admixture or in pure form.

Synthetic fuels also include Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils (HVO) such as KlimaDiesel, about which the eFuels Forum team will also be providing information at Nordbau. HVO is a high-value, bio-based and synthetic fuel (XTL) produced from renewable and sustainable sources, such as vegetable oils, vegetable and animal fats, or recyclable waste materials such as cooking oils and fat residues. This makes it an alternative that is already available at several dozen filling stations and produces up to 90 percent less CO2 emissions than pure fossil diesel fuel. KlimaDiesel’s sales partners are also members of the eFuels Forum.

About the eFuels Forum:

The eFuels Forum was founded in the summer of 2021 and now consists of more than 40 energy companies and interest groups from all over Germany as well as the technology partner CAC Engineering GmbH. The platform aims to inform the general public about eFuels. To this end, the team traveled more than 5,000 kilometers across Germany in the summer of 2021 and 2022 in a BMW Mini fueled with eFuels from CAC to explain the advantages of synthetic fuels as part of an information tour at filling stations. In addition, the eFuels Forum is active at trade fairs and other events as well as on the social media platforms Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Since 2021, other partnerships have emerged from the eFuels Forum, such as eFuel GmbH and Klima Kraftstoffe GmbH. The goal of these companies is to participate in companies and initiatives to bring synthetic fuels to market.

Media contact:

Annika Beyer, Press Officer, beyer@exprtise-tankstelle.de

Caphenia plans to start building a pilot plant near Frankfurt am Main this year that will produce renewable fuels from the end of 2024.
