The United Kingdom could serve as a model in this regard. According to the *Handelsblatt*<\/a>, it is now \u201crelaxing\u201d its targets for electric cars. The *Handelsblatt* states: \u201cThe United Kingdom has eased the requirements for the transition to electric cars in light of the impending burden posed by high U.S. import tariffs. The fines for failing to meet the electric vehicle sales targets\u2014which are necessary to reduce CO2 emissions\u2014are being lowered.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking to the BBC, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said, \u201cWe are absolutely clear that this government must do everything it can to protect British businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
